Alicia Benetatos is a contemporary artist from beautiful Melbourne, Victoria.

Formally trained in Graphic Design, she always carried a deep love for the fine arts. Painting captivated her from a young age, and she dreamed of one day becoming an artist. As life unfolded, her creative path paused while she spent over a decade building a career in digital print.

In 2020, after the arrival of her second child, Alicia returned to the thing she loved most -painting.

Her style is intuitive, colour-driven and layered with expressive texture. Painting freely allows her to embrace the unknown. Even when she begins with a plan, the painting inevitably transforms into something unexpected. That surrender to the unknown is where the real magic and excitement lives for her. Alicia draws inspiration from colour, unexpected textural “accidents,” floral forms, and the rhythm of her everyday experiences. Music is woven into her creative process too; favourite lines from songs, and the memories attached to them, often spark the emotional tone of a new piece. Through layered colour and raw, gestural marks, she creates depth, movement and feeling, inviting viewers to experience something of their own.

Love, both gentle and exhilarating, sits quietly at the centre of Alicia’s practice. A natural daydreamer, she is drawn to beauty, warmth and the kinds of moments that make life feel illuminated. Her works often begin with a spark: the rush of inspiration, the tenderness of connection, or the feeling that rises in the body before it becomes colour on canvas. Titles such as You Set My Soul Alight and Like a Dream Come Alive reflect this emotional charge, mirroring the pulse of love, desire and excitement that fuels her creative world. These works embody the charged, tingling energy she feels when creating and an energy she hopes others can feel too.
