I Feel The Spark holds more energy than the other works in this small collection. Areas of stronger colour and more defined marks sit against softer, quieter passages, while earlier layers remain visible beneath the surface.
The work was created during a period when my painting was beginning to shift. I was moving away from repeatedly covering and rebuilding the canvas and becoming more interested in what could remain — allowing marks to overlap, soften and sit alongside one another.
A Quiet Unfolding marks a transition in my painting practice. Across this small body of work, heavier, more opaque layers began to give way to thinner applications of paint, transparency and more breathing space. It opened the way for the translucent, accumulated layers that would later become central to Unscripted Language.
