It Feels Like Spring is the first piece from the Whispers of Tomorrow collection.

This work marked the beginning of a more instinctive period in my painting. Layers of pale green, blue, pink and violet are interrupted by darker marks and small areas of warmer colour, with gestures moving loosely across the canvas rather than following a predetermined composition.

There is an openness and spontaneity to this piece that became important in the works that followed. Rather than continually correcting or covering what was already there, I began allowing marks to remain and responding to them as the painting developed.

Whispers of Tomorrow is a body of work where instinctive mark-making became increasingly important in my practice. Built through layered gestures, changing colour and repeated revision, the paintings hold visible traces of the decisions that shaped them.
