Settling is the second finished piece from the Unscripted Language collection.
The layers in this work were built slowly, with translucent marks accumulating across the canvas while earlier decisions remained visible beneath them. Rather than covering or correcting what came before, I allowed those traces to become part of the finished surface.
This was part of a shift in how I was working — becoming less concerned with controlling the outcome and more interested in allowing one layer to inform the next.
Settling is a sister piece to Shedding. The two were created alongside one another, but each stands independently.
Unscripted Language is a body of work built on instinct and restraint. No fixed plan, no forced marks, just layers that accumulate and dissolve, and colour that speaks quietly. Each piece is a study in letting things emerge rather than making them happen.
