'Shedding' is the first piece from the Unscripted Language collection.
There is something in this work that feels like bark lifting away from a tree — layers releasing rather than being removed. The translucent marks build up and dissolve, each one holding the trace of what came before. Nothing is forced. Things simply fall away to reveal what was always underneath.
This piece marked a shift for me. A shedding of my own — in my practice, in the work I'm making, in how I see myself as an artist. I feel like I've finally found myself in the work. This is the beginning of that.
A sister piece to 'Settling' — the two are made to live together or hold their own individually.
‘Unscripted Language’ is a body of work built on instinct and restraint. No fixed plan, no forced marks — just layers that accumulate and dissolve, colour that speaks quietly. Each piece is a study in letting things emerge rather than making them happen.
